Banda Kulasa

Bandafest Plays for GILAS

BandaFest IV held its annual competition featuring past winners of BandaFest III and II, Banda Kulasa and Iskulbluekul in New York City. Both competing bands were declared winners by NY Consul General Cecille Regong. Iskulbluekul's rendition of 'classic rock' pieces and BandaKulasa's showcase repertoire were winning performances.

Fr. Governor Among Panlilio's Pampanga Gilas Project was among the beneficiaries of the fundraising event along with Ateneo College Scholarship Program, Sr. Bernie's Bicol bands and Morong High school.

BandaKulasa members, representing various Philippine alumni include vocalists Dawn Dineros, Boston Dolina, Kathy McMurray, percussionist Titchie Sarabia, drummer Cel Aceridano, Jesse Duma on keyboard, Stella Recio Huelgas on bass and guitarists Cecile Bunag Lowlicht and Jo Ann Lara.

Iskulbluekul is made up of Warren Daya (lead guitar), Geo Garcia (bass), Cutuy Herrero (vocals), Arianne Recto (vocals and rhythm guitar), Mike Ruivivar (drums), and Bernie Villanueva (vocals). For more info about Iskulbluekul, visit http://www.myspace.com/iskulbluekul

Brain child of Jo Ann Lara, BandaFest was launched in 2004. Reminiscent of Philippine scholastic singing group competitions, the New York “battle of the bands” features a collection of Philippine alumni rockers and crooners relishing in the music and friendly rivalry for specific charities. “BandaFest is a 'crusade for causes' generating goodwill and wellness awareness of mind, body & spirit via sports, arts & culture,” said founder Jo Ann Lara.
