Empowering Women

After spending 20 years on wall street, Lynn Tilton founded Patriarch Partners, with the mission of rebuilding America one company and one job at a time through tireless work ethic, innovative spirit, and an unwavering quest for truth and light where others see hopelessness. Ms. Tilton credits her inspiration to giving up being Lynn Tilton for Lynn Tilton, and instead becoming "Lynn Tilton for the number of people who's lives I could touch."

Abigail Disney, a renown filmmaker and philanthropist, explains why she feels women are truly important and necessary in building our future. Her first film, a feature-length documentary called Pray the Devil Back to Hell tells the inspirational story of the women of Liberia and their efforts to bring peace to their broken nation after decades of destructive civil war. She is also involved in producing a number of other documentaries with social themes, and is developing a four-hour project for WNET/Wide Angle called Women, War & Peace. Abigail is also co-Founder and co-President of the Daphne Foundation, a progressive, social change foundation that makes grants to grassroots, community-based organizations working with low-income communities in New York City. Since 1991, the Daphne Foundation has made millions of dollars in grants in areas ranging from women’s rights to AIDS advocacy, children’s health, labor conditions, incarceration, and community organizing.

Dr. Mae Jemison explains the International Science Camp she put together called Earth we Share, a program for children from 12-16 around the world to build science literacy. Dr. Jemison wears a bracelet that says "reality leads fantasy." It's vitally important that we understand the reality that we're creating, because it's what is building the fantasies of our children for tomorrow.
